GoYogi
Shruthi Kumar is a first-year student at Harvard University, and graduate of Marian High School in Omaha, Nebraska. She is an international yoga competitor, nationally recognized speaker, and is passionate about community service. She competed at the 2018 World Championships of Yoga Sports in China as well as the 2019 National Speech and Debate Association, where she was an Orignal Oratory Finalist. She completed her 200-hour RYT Yoga Teacher Training Certification in her sophomore year of high school. She founded this organization to raise awareness for mental health among high school students and to share the importance of mindfuless in our daily lives. Shruthi loves to study psychology and health policy and loves to apply creativity and innovation to the work she does.
Jennifer Christen, a 1996 Marian alumna, has been at Marian since 2001. In the beginning of her career, she taught in the English and Fine Arts departments and was the competitive speech coach. She has won the Diamond Coaching Award from the National Forensic League (NFL) in 2007. In 2011, Jen moved into the role of Learning Services Coordinator in the Student Services Department. There she worked with students on study sills and academic success strategies. She oversaw student academic success plans, as well as communicated with parents, teachers and students. In 2017, Jen took over as the Dean of Student Services. She is currently serving on the Archdiocese of Omaha Student Services Advisory Committee and is pursuing a Masters in Educational Leadership from Creighton University.
Udavum Karangal’s Headmistress, Lara Steeward, and the Head of Jeevan Community College, Kavitha Paramesh, serve as the administrators of the GoYogi Program at the elementary school and community college at Udavum Karangal.
